In this article, the authors attempt to study the genre features of foreign cinema by analyzing modern films of the 21st century, which purposefully recreate confrontational images of the Soviet Union associated with the events of the Cold War during the ideological confrontation with the West (1946-1991). The authors study the problem of the emergence of the origins of the mythologization of politics in Western and European cinema, as well as the features of the visualization of confrontational images associated with the Soviet state and society: their goals, objectives, influence on the emotions, views and psyche of the Western European viewer. As part of the study of modern films dedicated to the events of the "cold war" between the USSR and the USA, the authors studied one hundred films and series created between 2000 and 2024, the main plot lines of which are focused on confrontation with the Soviet Union in various spheres of political and socio-cultural practice. The main research event of the article was an attempt to typologize the main confrontational plots of Western European films and identify the most frequently used tools for creating confrontational cinematic images of the USSR.
