Abstract

The article examines the features of communication in virtual space that are currently emerging among young people. It is shown what the specifics of such communication are, and studied how such changes in communication processes affect a person’s identity. In addition, the features of the influence of digitalization and network communication on the formation of one’s own “I” are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the consideration of the social network “Instagram” (recognized as an extremist organization and banned on the territory of the Russian Federation). The article also analyzes both the negative consequences of online communication, namely the dependence of modern people on virtual networks, and the positive ones, for example, the possibility of communication for people with various forms of adaptation disorders. Separately, the phenomenon of escapism is considered, that is, a person’s desire to escape from reality, which is closely related to the spread of online communications. It is also noted that thanks to the development of digitalization, new skills are being developed and new competencies are being acquired by the current generation of millennials or digital natives.
